Auditions

October 22nd, 2012

I can’t believe I’m writing this – but earlier today, I went to a cappella auditions.  It was really awkward at first because I was apparently supposed to prepare Kelly Clarkson’s “Since You Been Gone”, and I so did not.  So, I was an awkward turtle and came in late, as they were trying to finish up actually, and did a different song.  After all, if they did not like what I prepared, it would be there loss.  So, once I was on stage I grabbed a cup from the table in front of Chloe and Aubrey and performed “When I’m Gone” by Lulu and the Lampshades with a plastic cup that I saw somebody do on YouTube.

I thought I could spruce the song up a bit, and Chloe from the Bellas seemed to like it. - I'm not sure how Aubrey felt about it.  I dubbed it “The Cup Song” and it really seemed to be a success.  I’m supposed to hear back from the Bellas within the next two days if they want me to join their group.  I’m not particularly thrilled about that idea, but if joining the Bellas keeps my dad off my back, I’m in.

  2. For Beca to audition is for her potential to be shown to not only Chloe, but Aubrey as well. If this were to be labeled as a quest expectation, it would be innate greatness. Even when Beca muddles her audition by not preparing the selected song, she still prevails with her talent. Like Perceval, she has untapped potential that others would be envious of; even when she screws up, she wins! If an audience member were to interpret (via hermeneutics) her song choice, the title alone aligns with her original quest. She is only auditioning for the Bellas in order to please her dad so she can leave BU. She bluntly tells the Bellas, “You’re going to miss me when I’m gone,” which is foreshadowing to her actually quitting the Bellas, and them needing her.
